Womens Harvest at Chelsea Market
By Jefferson Siegel
To help celebrate International Womens Day on Saturday, March 8, the Mercy Corps charitable organization opened Harvest, Sustenance and Survival: A Photo Exhibit of Women and Food from Around the World on Tuesday at Chelsea Market. The exhibit displays vivid photographs of women in a variety of situations, either making and harvesting food or portrayed in their rural surroundings.
The exhibit was created by Mercy Corps, whose mission statement details its purpose to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities.
Later this year, Mercy Corps will open an Action Center to End World Hunger in Battery Park City, with the mission to educate visitors of the causes of hunger and poverty, as well as to motivate action against these problems.
International Womens Day will see events staged worldwide to celebrate the accomplishments of women throughout history as well as to inspire future generations of women.
The photo exhibit at Chelsea Market will be on display daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through Tuesday, March 11.
