Student stabbing rocks Chelsea
Three students of the Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities in Chelsea were stabbed at 1 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 12 in a gang assault on West 17th Street at Eight Avenue, a block away from the school. A 10th Precinct detective said the victims, ranging in ages from 15 to 17, were taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and are refusing to cooperate with the investigation. A small group of teens attacked the victims between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and others soon jumped into what became a melee. The names of the victims, residents of Harlem, were not released, but a detective said they did not show up in the police database of organized youth gangs. Police dusted nearby cars for fingerprints shortly after the incident, just outside the school.
