Stringer gives citations to C.B. 5 members

Three members of Community Board 5, which covers midtown from 14th to 59th Sts. between Lexington and Sixth Aves., received citations from Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer on July 12 honoring their service of more than 25 years on the board.

Joyce Matz was honored for her 29 years of service on the board’s landmarks committee, which she has chaired since 1985. She has also worked on the parks, land use and zoning and the transportation committees. A public relations consultant by profession, she is a member of the New York City Press Club as well as the Municipal Art Society, the East 79th St. Neighborhood Association, Landmark West! and Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts.

Howard Mendes was recognized for his 35 years of service on Community Board 5 and his membership over the years on the parks, quality of life, landmarks, arts and culture, city services and budget, and land use and zoning committees. He currently chairs the consents and variances committee and represents the board on the Union Sq. Partnership and Fashion District BIDs.

Michael Presser was honored for his more than 25 years on the board, which he has served as chairman and founder of the board’s youth and human services committee. He has worked on the board’s city services and budget committee and represents the board on the Union Sq. Partnership, Times Sq. Alliance, 34th St. Partnership BIDs and the Bryant Park Restoration Corp.
