Dishonest guest
A woman who lives on 21st St. told police on Sun. May 6 that she met a man in a local bar whom she thought was a friend of her friends and invited him to her apartment. She showed him around the apartment, and after he left a couple of hours later, she discovered that her gold sapphire ring valued at $5,000 and other jewelry valued at $2,400 were gone, police said.
Gone from boat
A 26-year-old woman who works for the Spirit tour boats on the Chelsea Piers told police that she discovered her bag, with $250 in cash, credit cards and house keys was missing from the Spirit of New York at 6 p.m. Tues. May 8. The victim cancelled her credit cards, and there were no unauthorized charges.
Noise dispute
A resident of W. 18th St. near Eighth Ave. told police on Sat. May 5 that he was looking out of his window that faces a back yard that he shares with Helens, a bar at 169 Eighth Ave., when a man came into the yard from a back door of Helens and shouted abusive words at him. The resident acknowledged that he has a running dispute about noise coming from the bar.
False report
A man told police last week that a thief put a gun to his head on a Chelsea street, forced him into a car and drove him to New Jersey, where he abandoned the victim and the car. But the man changed his story on May 5 after questioning by 10th Precinct detectives. He confessed that he was not held up and had taken the car himself and abandoned it in New Jersey. Detectives charged Alvarado Mejia, 29, with falsely reporting a robbery and grand larceny of an auto.
Stabbed on street
A man who was walking with a woman friend on the northwest corner of Eighth Ave. at 15th St. on Sunday evening May 6 was stabbed in the lower left side of his abdomen for no apparent reason by a stranger, police said. The victim was taken to St. Vincents Hospital in stable condition.
Marijuana arrest
Police arrested three men in a car parked at the curb on the north side of W. 17th St. just east of Ninth Ave at 11:20 p.m. Tues. May 8, and charged them with possession of a large amount of concentrated cannabis with intent to sell. Mark Espada, 20, Morris Douge, 19, and Reynaldo Rivera, 20, were charged.
Hit and run
A rearview mirror on the right front side of a cab struck a woman in the crosswalk of the northwest corner of Eighth Ave and 28th St. at 2:45 p.m. Tues. May 8, police said. The cab did not stop, and the victim, 50, sustained injuries to her right arm and shoulder, police said.
Sculpture missing
A large aluminum sculpture valued at $14,500 was delivered by truck to the Starrett Lehigh building, 601 W. 26th St., and was discovered missing on May 3, police said. The incident was not reported until Tues. May 8 because the gallery and the building management were looking through invoices in an attempt to locate the piece.
Bag gone
A woman who was visiting General Theological Seminary on Ninth Ave. and 20th St. left her bag on a desk for about 10 minutes on Tuesday evening May 8 and discovered it missing when she returned to retrieve it. The bag had keys, a Columbia University student ID, bank cards and a New York State learners permit.
Slashing runner
A man in a red track suit and spiky hair ran out of the kitchen at 5:34 a.m. Sat. April 21 brandishing two steak knives at Pre-Post, a club at 547 W. 27th St., knocked a male patron, 23, to the floor, slashed him and fled out of a back door, police said.
Construction burglaries
Police responded to a report of a burglar in a building under construction on the northeast corner of 10th Ave. and W. 16th St. at noon on Sun. May 6. They found a man coming out of the building with a heavy-duty power cable and charged Anthony
Steward, 57, with burglary.
Neighbors called police to a construction site in a building at 312 11th Ave. at 29th St. at 5:45 p.m. Tues. May 8 to report a burglary. Police arrested a man inside with a bag of burglar tools. Mike Torres, 43, was charged with burglary for entering the location by breaking through a plywood partition, police said.
