Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum, of Congregation Beth Simchat Torah in the West Village, and Matt Foreman, executive director of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, are arrested after sitting down in the middle of Seventh Ave. and blocking traffic.

Gay protest rocks Times Sq.

Several dozen activists, including ACT UP founder Larry Kramer, gathered in Times Sq. at noon on Thursday to protest the recent derogatory remarks by Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They were joined by former N.J. Governor Jim McGreevey. After marching around the Army recruiting station, chanting “Bigotry Kills” and “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Don’t Bomb Don’t Kill,” several activists blocked the door. Two people then spread the iconic gay pride banner across Seventh Ave., blocking traffic. When told to move, the two sat down in the street and were arrested.
