On Sunday in Union Square a man walked by stacks of old computers wrapped for recycling at the annual After the Holidays Electronic Waste Recycling Drive. More than 1,000 New Yorkers dropped off a total of 30 tons of old computers, TVs and cell phones at the event, sponsored by the Lower East Side Ecology Center. L.E.S.E.C. also collected postcards in support of Intro. 104, a City Council bill that would require electronics manufacturers to take back old equipment which contains toxic metals for recycling or proper disposal. Below, Christine Datz-Romero of L.E.S.E.C. holding a pretty good-looking old laptop computer destined for recycling.
