Skaters wear it well
Marni Halasa and Mimi Ishidate, two professional figure skaters who teach at Chelsea Piers, could be found one day last week not on the ice in Chelsea, but on the sidewalk on the Upper West Side, wearing a different kind of skates and outfits.
Strapping on inline skates and donning lingerie and undergarments from the Bra Smyth store at 77th St. and Broadway, they skated up and down the sidewalk, as might be expected, generating a lot of interest. They soon drew a crowd.
Halasa, who is also a performance artist, brought along some “wings” to add to the effect.
In addition to promoting the store which is staffed with “braticians” to help customers find the perfect fit the pair were also promoting their figure-skating classes. Halasa is a U.S. figure-skating double gold medalist. She is a staff professional at Chelsea Piers, where she has taught for 11 years. Ishidate is a staff pro at the Bryant Park rink and also teaches at Chelsea Piers.
