Im a real estate broker, and Ive been here for 15 years. We didnt want [the construction of this billboard] to happen. We wanted this area, the West Village, to remain historic, and certainly this billboard, with the hotel already not fitting into the rest of neighborhood, is not something wed like to see. Maybe it would have been better if it had just been on the side of the building and not so conspicuous?
Susan Doherty, 45, real estate broker, West Village

I read about those protests. I dont really think that it makes a difference. Its just another ad in the neighborhood, you know? You cant just keep everything the samethats what some people want, that nothing will change, but things are already changing. Besides, this hotel is going to give some of the money back to the community, to artists, and something has to pay for that money.

I think its horrible that they put it up! The other billboards have already been there for years. Ive been here for 40 years, and I think the hotel is too big in the first place. Theyre changing things too much, theres going to be no character left in the area, and theyre taking the character away with these ads.
